Washington. In view of the increasing threat from Russia and China, America has once again started making new nuclear bombs. In the coming 10 years, it is proposed to spend about 70 thousand crores on its industrial production. The production will take place at a factory on the banks of the Savannah River in South Carolina and in Los Almos, New Mexico.
The Savannah River factory produced tritium and plutonium for US nuclear weapons during the Cold War between the US and Russia. Thousands of people worked in this factory spread over 2 lakh acres. Now 37 million gallons of radioactive liquid waste has been collected here. After 30 years, nuclear weapons will be manufactured here again.
The American organization The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), which is part of the US Department of Energy, manufactures nuclear weapons here. The institution believes that the current nuclear weapons are very old and need to be replaced. There should be no problem as the new technology is more secure.
Actually, people here are afraid that if the factory starts again, people will fall into the grip of radiation. However, during the tenure of the Obama government, the US Congress and President Obama themselves had agreed to build nuclear weapons here.
The plan was approved by President Trump in 2018, under which a total of 80 pits would be built every year. It will have 50 in South Carolina and 30 in New Mexico. Here plutonium-like shells will be made, which will act as triggers in nuclear weapons.
Here, global security affairs expert Stephen Young says that the scheme is not only expensive, but also dangerous. At the same time, 70-year-old Pit LaBarge, who lives near the factory, says that no evidence has yet been found that the new technology will be safe. The NNSA believes that the US cannot stop this work, because the delay in work will not only jeopardize national security but will also increase the cost of industrial production.
America has 7,550 nuclear weapons
According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the US has 7550 nuclear weapons. It has deployed 1750 nuclear bombs in missiles and bombers. Of these, 150 nuclear bombs are deployed in Europe, so that Russia can be monitored. Russia has 6,375 and China has 320 nuclear weapons.
