The rapper seems to have no limits beyond the charts.
Say what you want, but Cardi B continues to add successes in her musical career with her latest single “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion. The rappers climbed to number 1 on the Billboard chart where they have remained for three weeks without going down a single day, dethroning the Korean pop mega-band BTS that got there with “Dynamite.”
In its first two weeks of the debut, the K-Pop group was at the top of the prestigious list. With that milestone they were the first Korean band to reach the top of the Billboard chart and even more so, to stay for so long. But it’s not the only feat Cardi B has accomplished with “WAP” since its launch.
The single garnered the highest number of streams of a song in its first week – a whopping 93 million streams, surpassing the previous record-holder Ariana Grande. Additionally, Cardi B and Megan’s debut at No. 1 marked the first time in chart history that a female hip hop duo topped the charts.
And as if that weren’t enough, the escalation of “WAP” gave Cardi B her second peak in three weeks, as in the past she achieved it with “Bodak Yellow”. Now for the BTS guys, all is not lost as they remain just below the rapper in 2nd position with “Dynamite” marking their third week in the Top 10 of the chart.
In addition, the track has become the first song to sell more than 500,000 downloads in the United States so far in 2020. While its third-week sales (136,000 copies) mark sales numbers larger than the week of biggest sales of any other song this year.
