ENG Vs WI 2nd Test Day 4 Tea: England’s hopes of making a comeback to the series in the second Test match being played at Old Trafford ground in Manchester are almost ending. West Indies scored 227 runs in their first innings at the loss of four wickets till tea time on the fourth day of the Test. England had declared their innings by scoring 469 runs for nine wickets in the first innings. In this regard, the Windies are currently 242 runs behind England’s score, while they have six wickets left.
The third day of the match could not be played due to rain. On the fourth day, the Windies started the day with 32 runs at the loss of one wicket and by lunch had scored 118 runs for two wickets. The visiting team started playing beyond this score after lunch.
Craig Brathwaite started by 41 runs while Shai Hope started from 25 runs. Both batsmen shared a 53-run partnership for the third wicket. After this, Hope was dismissed for 25 runs with the help of five fours off 71 balls. He was caught by Sam Curren in the hands of Jose Butler.
Test results difficult to come
After Hope’s dismissal, Brathwaite added 76 for the fourth wicket with Shama Brooks. After this, Brathwaite also returned to the pavilion as the fourth batsman on the team’s score of 199. Brathwaite contributed 75 runs from 165 balls with the help of eight balls.
At tea time, Brooks returned unbeaten on 60 from 115 balls with 10 fours and Roston Chase eight from 21 balls. There has been an unbeaten partnership of 28 runs for the fifth wicket between the two batsmen. For England, Sam Curren has taken two wickets and Dominique Bess and Ben Stokes have taken one wicket each. Now the West Indies team is just 42 runs away from saving the follow on.
If England has to bat again in this Test match, then the chances of getting the result are equal. The West Indies team won the first Test and maintained a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
