Florence Pugh will carry Scarlett Johansson’s legacy in the next phase of the Marvel movies.
Cate Shortland, director of Black Widow, revealed that the next independent film will feature Florence Pugh and prepare her character for more stories.
The long-awaited independent film comes after Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff died in Avengers: Endgame, sacrificing herself so that superheroes could get the last Infinity Stone they needed to defeat Thanos.
In Endgame, fans were upset that Natasha didn’t have a funeral. While Scarlett, when I told her about it, said that Natasha would not have wanted a funeral. She is too private, and anyway, people really don’t know who she is. So what we did in this movie was allow the ending to be the pain that individuals felt, rather than a great public outpouring. I think it’s a fitting ending for her, “Shortland explained.
Last year, Johansson spoke about her Black Widow character in an interview for Variety.

The film is now slated to hit theaters on November 6.
