The 92nd Oscar airs live on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at the Dolby Theater at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood and will air live on The ABC Television Network at 8:00 pm. EST / 5: 00 p.m. PST.
The presenters and winners of the 92nd Annual Academy Awards did not back down as early as the 2020 Oscar Sunday.
During the ceremony, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences criticized the lack of diversity. Janelle Monae’s opening song and the opening monologue given by Steve Martin and Chris Rock joked about how few nominees were women or people of color.
“There were so many great directors nominated this year,” Rock said.
“I don’t know, Chris. I thought there was something missing on this year’s list,” Martin countered.
“Vaginas?” Rock quipped.
“Yes,” the two said as the crowd burst into applause and laughter.
Of the 20 actors and actresses nominated, only two are people of color, and this year the female director was not selected. Of the nine best-rated films, the only nonwhite cast is in the South Korean film “Parasite”, and “Little Woman” only centers around several female characters.
Netflix received 24 nominations for the big awards ceremony, more than any other media outlet in the industry this year. For the first time in Oscar history, the highest nominated studio streaming service.
In the Best Picture category, “1917” is the favorite of the awards season, but “Parasite” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” don’t count.
The Academy Awards quickly made their political debut after winning the Brad Pitt Award for Best Supporting Actor.
“They told me I only had 45 seconds here,” he said. “This is 45 seconds more than Sen. John Bolton’s given this week. I think it’s Quentin [Tarantino] Makes a movie about it and eventually the adults do the right thing. “
In the past, award shows such as the Academy Awards have given air film complaints to the elite of the film industry. In Hollywood, there have been reports of wage inequality between men and women, women’s rights, gay rights, and police brutality against people of color.
