The Government of Pakistan has now approached the Islamabad High Court in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case. Pakistan has on Wednesday appealed to the court to give counsel to Kulbhushan Jadhav. According to the news agency, Pakistan claims that this step has been taken by Pakistan to implement the decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for a fair trial of the case.
The petition has been filed by the Ministry of Law and Justice. According to the decision of the International Court in the petition, Kulbhushan Jadhav has been sought to get a lawyer to review the decision of the Military Court.
Steps taken after offering third consular access
Pakistan took this step at a time when a few days ago it offered to give third consular access in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case. Earlier, after the second consular access, India said that Jadhav was under stress. The arrangements made for Pakistan to meet Jadhav and the consular officials could not be negotiated openly. India had said that the meeting of Indian officials with Jadhav was not without hindrance, unconditional and uninterrupted.
Jadhav case: at a glance
Pakistan claims that Kulbhushan is a spy of Indian intelligence agency RAW. India calls them businessmen. Pakistan says that Jadhav was arrested from Balochistan in 2016. India says that Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran. In 2017, a Pakistani military court sentenced Jadhav to death. India went to ICJ. There the execution of the sentence was stayed until further orders. Pakistan was asked to give consular access.
Pakistan inclined in Kulbhushan case: Pakistan will give Jadhav third consular access, accepts India’s condition, said – security officers will not remain during the meeting.
Gave second consular access to Kulbhushan, but Indian officer said – Jadhav’s tension was visible, there was not even a situation to talk freely.
