Due to Corona virus, sports competitions are not being organized in India for the last four months. After almost one and a half months of onlock, all the players have not yet started their practice. In order to bring the Games back on track, Union Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju held a meeting with the Ministers in-charge of the Youth Affairs and Sports Department of all states and union territories through video conference on Wednesday. It has been indicated from the meeting that it may take at least two or three more months for the Games to begin.

The purpose of the meeting was to prepare a roadmap for development of grassroots sports along with activities of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and Rashtriya Seva Yojana across the country. Rijiju said,

More than 6 million volunteers from NYKS and NSS were engaged as frontline Covid warriors as they created awareness, made and distributed masks and assisted citizens during the epidemic.

he adds,

We have targeted to mobilize more than one crore volunteers under the schemes of the Youth Ministry. The swayamsevaks will not only continue their fight against Covid-19, but will also help the citizens to benefit from the vision of self-reliant India of the Hon’ble Prime Minister.

Tournaments can be played after two-three months

Reviewing the possibility of resuming sports activities in the states, Rijiju said,

States must independently decide when they can start sports activities and training. However, I would request all the states to start some sports activities after two-three months.

The Union Sports Minister said,

We can start sports competitions for non-contact sports in a limited way. There are some states which have started their sports facilities, where some sports training has started. As the situation improves, we should try to bring back the on-field game.
