- KP Sharma Oli and Pushp Kamal Dahal Prachanda agree because of President’s mediation
- Later this year, Nepal Communist Party agreed to hold general conference
The danger of a break-up in Nepal’s ruling party Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is currently averted. According to Nepal’s media report, party co-chairman Pushp Kamal Dahal Prachanda has decided to leave the demand for the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for the time being. Oli and Prachanda agreed to a mutual agreement on Sunday. It is believed that the role of President Bidya Devi Bhandari was important in the agreement.
Agreed to call general conference by the end of the year
According to the Kathmandu Post, Oli and Prachanda have agreed on the condition of convening the party’s general conference later this year. The agreement means that Prachanda will now give up his demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Oli. Due to Prachanda’s demand, the internal deadlock in the NCP was threatening to break.
Prachanda also had the support of senior leaders
Prachand’s demand for Oli’s resignation was further intensified when he got the support of senior party leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal. All were demanding the resignation of Oli from both the Prime Minister and the Party Chair. 30 of the 44 members of the Standing Committee also demanded Ollie’s resignation.
Meeting of Standing Committee for two days
At the same time, the meeting of the standing committee of NCP was postponed for the seventh time. In a statement issued by the central office of NCP, it was told that the standing committee meeting to be held at 3 pm on Sunday has been deferred till 11 am on Tuesday.
So angry with olie
Party leaders are angry with Oli on many issues. The Prime Minister failed to tackle Covid-19. Did not act on allegations of corruption. A very important issue is related to India. Party leaders admit that they did not negotiate with India on the border dispute. Anyway, Ollie is weak on all three party performances. He does not have support in the Secretariat, Standing Committee and Central Committee. According to the party rules, if the leader is weak on these three platforms then he is sure to leave.
