The judicial custody of Riya Chakraborty and her brother Shovik Chakraborty has been extended till October 6 by the Mumbai special court. Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested Shovik Chakraborty on 4 September. Riya Chakraborty was arrested by the NCB on 8 September on charges of purchasing drugs. He was then taken to Byculla Jail in Mumbai the next day. So far, 18 people have been arrested by the NCB, including Sushant Singh Rajput manager Samuel Miranda and cook Deepesh Sawant.
Meanwhile, Riya Chakraborty and Shovik moved the Bombay High Court seeking bail. His lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, said that the bail application would be heard tomorrow (23 September).
Narcotics Control Bureau became involved in the case of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death after Ria Chakraborty’s WhatsApp chat with Jaya Saha was re-issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The ED, while investigating the money-laundering angle in the case, accessed chats that contained drugs. The ED then asked the NCB to investigate the drug angle in the case.
The NCB investigation has led to several arrests. Ten drug peddlers have also been arrested by the NCB, who allegedly supplied drugs to various Bollywood celebrities.
Yesterday (21 September), NCB questioned Jaya Saha, Sushant Singh Rajput’s talent manager, about her involvement in supplying drugs to celebrities. Inquiry with Jaya Saha will continue even today. Sushant’s manager, Shruti Modi, will also be questioned by the NCB today.
