Former captain of the Indian team and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has said that he still does not digest that he was dropped from the ODI team even after scoring the most runs in 2007. Ganguly first lost his captaincy and team in 2005 due to differences with coach Greg Chappell. However, Ganguly made a strong comeback in 2006 and went on to score runs.
However, Ganguly was dropped from the team along with Rahul Dravid on the 2007–08 tour of Australia. A year later, Ganguly said goodbye to cricket. Speaking to Bengal newspaper Sangbad daily, Ganguli said, “It was an incredible thing. I was removed from the ODI team when I scored the most runs in that calendar year. No matter how good you are, but if If you take the stage from me, what will you prove? And whom will you prove? This thing happened to me. “
He said, “If I had got two more ODI series, I would have scored more runs. If I did not retire in Nagpur, I would have scored runs in the next two series as well.” At the same time, he said that if he practice a little, he can still score runs for India.
He said, “Still, give me six months to train, let me play some Ranji Trophy matches, I can still run for India in Test cricket. I don’t want even six months, three months is enough, I will run Will make it. ” The current BCCI president said, “You can’t give me a chance to play, but how will you destroy my inner confidence”. Ganguly, however, played the IPL till 2012.
